New custom cycling bib shorts

We have developed some new cycling bib-shorts to give an even more comfortable fit. The cut of the panels have been altered to ensure that the lycra is less stretched round the waist when you are in the cycling position, whilst maintaining compression on the legs to help soothe those aching quads. We have also added the option to have lycra-band leg grippers rather than silicone so that the grip itself is less constricting on the muscle.

The shorts incorporate a side panel that swishes round the front of the leg and a separate back panel to link the two side panels, rather than having a continuous ‘U’ panel running down the legs and over the backside. It is an unbelievable amount of work to design, test and then redesign a garment as complex as cycling shorts, but we think that we have now developed the most comfortable ergonomically designed cycling shorts available on the market!

We have maintained our carbon mesh chamois, because we think it is the most comfortable chamois available on the market, as it uses fabric mesh rather than foam, which will not absorb moisture (to avoid the ‘nappy’ feel in the wet) and uses carbon threads to help dissipate the heat, as well as being completely antibacterial and anatomically cut.

It is a lot of work organising a photo shoot and we were lucky enough to have Tiago Santos around to record some of the work we did.

On the video you can see our custom tri suits, custom swimming costumes, custom cycling jerseys, custom running kit and even Charlie wearing a Carvalho Custom polo shirt! thanks to Tiago for putting together such a great video.

Alkmaar Winter Duathlon cycling jerseys

Here are the winners of the Boretti Winter Duathlon in Alkmaar, which is the second race in the 5 race Winter Triathlon series, sponsored by Carvalho Custom. We were not able to come over from Portugal to see the race this time, which is a great shame, but we will be there in Groningen and Twente in March 2012. Well done to the 4 category winners, pictured here wearing the Carvalho Custom winners’ jerseys!

Hier zijn de winnaars van de Boretti Winter Duathlon in Alkmaar, de tweede race van de vijf race Winter Triathlon serie, gesponsord door Carvalho Custom. Helaas was het ons niet mogelijk voor dit evenement uit Portugal over te komen, maar in maart 2012 zullen wij zeker in Groningen en Twente van de partij zijn. Sponsoring the Assen Winter Triathlon in Holland

We have just come back from Assen in Holland where we sponsored the first event in the Winter Triathlon Series (Run-Bike-Skate). It was an unbelievably well-organised event: only in Holland would you be able to find 312 volunteers to run an event for 600 people and we would very much like to thank the organizers for being so amazingly helpful to us. We really hope to come back next year and if you are based in Holland, please consider the next 4 events in the Winter Triathlon Series:

Winterduathlon Alkmaar – 13th November 2011
Wintertriathlon Inzell – 11th February 2012
Wintertriathlon Groningen – 10th March 2012
Wintertriathlon Twente – 24th March 2012

Carvalho Custom Winter Triathlon Series, Holland

Here at Carvalho Custom, we love to get involved with events that help to drive our sports of cycling and triathlon forward. So we were delighted to be contacted by the Winter Triathlon Series in Holland who wanted sponsorship for the events they were running over the 2011/2012 season. This is triathlon with a twist though – since it gets a bit chilly in Holland over the winter, they decided that Winter Triathlon should be Run-Bike-Skate, which sounds like a good idea to us! So we decided to get involved and we will have a stand at some of the events, including at Assen on the 29th of October if you would like to come and meet us and see some samples. Please come along and say hello if you get the chance.

Bij Carvalho Custom houden we ervan betrokken te zijn bij evenementen die onze favoriete sporten fietsen en triathlon verder brengen. We vinden het dan ook ontzettend leuk dat de Winter Triathlon serie ons heeft benaderd als sponsor voor de evenementen die zij organiseren in het seizoen 2011/2012. Maar de Winter Triathlons zijn geen gewone triathlons. Omdat de Nederlandse winters nogal koud zijn, heeft de organisatie gekozen voor een race in de vorm ”run-bike-skate”. Dat vinden wij een fantastisch idee! Vandaar dat wij tijdens verschillende evenementen met een stand aanwezig zullen zijn. Tijdens de race in Assen op 29 oktober zijn we er ook. Dus als je geïnteresseerd bent in onze kleding en een aantal voorbeelden zou willen zien, nodigen we je van harte uit langs te komen bij onze stand. Hopelijk zien we jullie daar!

We have spent a couple of days riding, running and swimming round Portugal taking some photos of our kit to revamp the website and also to produce a pdf brochure of our custom cycling & triathlon club kit range, which a lot of clients have been asking us for.

We were very lucky to have the exceptional talents of Margarida Ramos who took the above photos and is just starting out in her career and Joana Maltez who was the main photographer for the shoot. As well as being great professionals they were just such a pleasure to work with and I think the results speak for themselves, so thank you so much to both of them.

Per Wangel Swedish Triathlon Sprint Champion

We are very proud to supply some of Europe’s leading triathletes with their race and training kit and one of them, Per Wangel, has just become Swedish Triathlon sprint champion.

Here he is wearing his Carvalho Custom tri suit on the top step of the podium. For elite athletes like Per we generally make the tri suits with a tighter fit across the abs, to reflect the build of these top athletes. Also in Per’s case, we had to make the tri suit longer in the torso as he is so tall, so if you are a client who has some specific requirements for a tri suit fit, then generally we can accomodate them.

Anyway, congratulations to Per and best of luck for the rest of the season.

Swedish Tri Champs Winners’ Jerseys

We were very proud to sponsor the winners’ jerseys for the Swedish Triathlon championships in Hallsta, which was won by Annie Thorén and Andreas Schilling pictured here wasting perfectly good champagne on the podium. We are committed to growing our brand in Sweden for both custom cycling and triathlon clothing and it is great to put something back into the sport by sponsoring clothing for events such as this and supporting top athletes like Per Wangel.

Bike lane protest film!

This New Yorker was fined for riding outside of a bike lane and made a movie about it to prove his point that riding in the bike lane is not always possible or safe….

In all seriousness, it is unbelievably irritating when you see some kind of token cycle lane painted on a pavement or the side of the road, often with numerous fixed obstructions like bollards, phone boxes or whatever in the way and curbs to hop. Either make a proper bike lane that is safe and easy for us to ride on or let us take our chances on the open road. Rant over.
